How we handle information on this site

This Privacy Policy explains what information the website of the Mu Delta Chapter of Theta Tau at UC Merced ("the chapter," "we," "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using this site you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

This site is run by student members of the Mu Delta Chapter of Theta Tau. It is a chapter website and is not operated by the University of California, Merced. You can reach us at thetatau@ucmerced.edu.

2. Information we collect

  • Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply and to carry out chapter business.
  • Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visited, and the date and time. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running.
  • What we do not collect. The site has no user accounts, does not sell anything, and does not show advertising. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information through the site.

3. How we use information

We use information to respond to messages, answer questions about joining or attending events, operate and secure the website, and improve its content. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

4. Third-party services and links

Parts of this site rely on services run by other companies, which have their own privacy practices:

  • Google Calendar is embedded on our Events page. Google may collect information such as your IP address and set cookies when the calendar loads. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are linked from the footer. Once you click through, those services' policies apply.
  • The Member Site (UC Merced CatLife) is run by the university and is governed by its policies.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites.

5. Members, family tree, and notable alumni

This site lists chapter members and alumni in three ways:

  • The Members page shows our active members.
  • The Family Tree page shows current and former members and their line of "bigs" and "littles," and may include pledge class and year.
  • Our notable alumni listing highlights selected alumni along with their place of work at the time we asked them. Workplaces change, so this may be out of date.

We publish only this limited information, such as names, chapter details, and (for notable alumni) an employer, and we do not publish personal contact details, addresses, or phone numbers.

If you appear on the Members page, the Family Tree, or the notable alumni listing and would like your entry corrected, updated, shortened to a first name or initials, or removed, email us at thetatau@ucmerced.edu and we will respond promptly.

6. Cookies

We do not set our own tracking cookies. Embedded services such as Google Calendar may set cookies of their own. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of an embedded service may not work as a result.

7. Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we receive, but no website or email system is completely secure. We keep messages only as long as needed for the purpose they were sent.

9. Your choices and rights

You may ask us to tell you what information we have about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Residents of California and some other states have additional rights over their personal information. Email us to make a request and we will do our best to honor it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed, and continued use of the site means you accept the updated version.
